About the Family Day of Service
Who We Are.
The Family Day of Service was created by Family Strengthening Network, which utilizes the Whole Family Approach to improve the family unit as a whole and thus improves the quality of life of all family members. Family Day of Service is currently facilitated in partnership with the Volunteer Center of South Jersey.
Our History.
Family Day of Service began in 2014 and takes place annually during the third week of May. Each year, the number of partners, projects, and participants increases as more families, schools, places of worship, and community groups work together to give back. In 2019, over 4,000 volunteers served in 168 projects.
Frequently Asked Questions
When does my project have to be?
The Family Day of Service takes place on May 15-17, 2020. You may choose to do service on May 15th, 16th, or 17th depending on your availability.
How big should my project be?
Your project can be as big or small as you want it to be. There is no project too small but think of your friends and family who could participate in your project.
How many volunteers does FDS recruit?
We want to recruit as many families as possible! Even if you only participate with your 3 closest friends or immediate family, remember that you are part of a movement that will have a positive impact throughout South Jersey.
How can I see and increase the impact of this movement?
We will be sending out information to thousands of people throughout Southern New Jersey. We will be sending out press releases that will be published in the newspaper, online, and on radio shows. We will feature projects in these releases, on social media, and on our volunteer t-shirts. Projects will also be featured on our Facebook and Instagram pages so that our community can see the work that you are doing!
Where do I register my own project?
Visit our homepage at FamilyDayofService.org and click the button. You will be sent to a form where you can detail your project so that we can feature you. You will be provided with a “Project Coordinator Toolkit” with helpful tips on how to increase the impact of your project.
I want to coordinate a project, but I don’t know what to do. Where can I find some inspiration?
We have had projects that are suited for all ages and interests. In the past, we have had projects like:
Building a reading room at a domestic violence shelter
Painting the inside of a thrift shop
Collecting and distributing donations for pet shelters
Creating place mats for Meals on Wheels
Sorting clothes & food for a donation center
Writing letters to deployed soldiers
Creating hygiene kits to distribute to homeless shelters
Landscaping and yard work for community members
